Dalla pratica del buddismo Zen ho imparato che la nostra esistenza è composta da relazioni interconnesse. Questa nozione mi ha ispirato nell’utilizzo della fotografia per rivelare e stabilire queste dinamiche e connessioni.
Mentre ero in Giappone, ho frequentato l’università, ottenendo un Ph.D. in Neuroscienze. Dopo il trasferimento negli USA nel 1992, ho iniziato ad utilizzare la fotocamera per ritrarre la gente e la città di Chicago. Ho imparato la fotografia dal fotoreporter Damaso Reyes.
Ho cominciato i miei progetti professionali a lungo termine nel 2009 con “Chicago Redline Station”, a cui più tardi si è aggiunto “Cabrini-Green: Frances Cabrini Rowhouses” nel 2010. Questi progetti continuano nel presente insieme agli altri progetti che sono emersi dalla mia pratica quotidiana.
La fotografia è guidata dalla visione e dal contenuto. Trovo i miei soggetti seguendo le correnti e trovando i vortici sociali della Chicago metropolitana.
Ho iniziato utilizzando un flash off camera per strada alla fine del 2011 per cercare immagini differenti che sono diventato un’altra delle mie serie “Lights in Chicago”.

Professional long-term project started in 2009 with “Chicago Redline station”, later it was expanded to “Cabrini-Green: Frances Cabrini Rowhouses” in 2010. These projects pervades to the present along with all the projects that have emerged from my continuing practice.
Photography is driven by vision and content. I find my subjects by following the currents and finding the social whirlpools of metropolitan Chicago.
I started using a off camera flash on streets in late 2011 to search different images which became my another series called “Lights in Chicago”. Through unique illuminations, I aim to capture social and cultural complexities within our society. Bieke Depoorter (born 1986) received her master’s degree in photography from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) in Ghent in 2009. She works mostly on autonomous projects. In 2009, she travelled through Russia, photographing people in whose homes she had spent a single night for her series Ou Menya, which won several prizes, including the Magnum Expression Award, and led to a book, published in 2011. Currently Bieke is publishing her second book: I Am About to Call it a Day, a similar long-term project in the United States. She continues working on In Between (In Egypt). Originally a member of the Paris-based photo agency/collective Tendance Floue, Bieke is now an associate member at Magnum Photos.

Jose Maria Rodriguez Madoz (born 1958) better known as Chema Madoz, is a Spanish photographer, best known for his black and white surrealist photographs.
Chema Madoz studied Art History at Universidad Complutense de Madrid between 1980 and 1983. It is here that he was first exposed to the study of photography and imaging.
In an interview published in 2001, Chema explains that he currently uses a Hasselblad camera to take his photos. The book, Chema Madoz: Objetos 1990–1999 was presumably shot entirely with this camera, rather than the 6×6 Mamiya he has used previously.
In November 2011, Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Spain, with Chilean first lady Cecilia Morel, opened an exhibition of Chema Madoz’s work at the al Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (Santiago, Chile).

All’età di 15 anni, Alex Majoli si unì allo Studio F45 di Ravenna, dove collaborò con Daniele Casadio. Mentre studiava all’Istituto d’Arte di Ravenna, iniziò a collaborare con l’Agenzia Grazia Neri e si recò in Yugoslavia per documentare il conflitto. Vi tornò molte volte negli anni seguenti per coprire i principali eventi in Kosovo e Albania.
Majoli si è diplomato alla Scuola d’Arte nel 1991. Tre anni più tardi, produsse una rappresentazione molto intima della chiusura di un istituto psichiatrico sull’isola di Leros, in Grecia, un progetto che si trasformò nel suo primo libro, Leros
Nel 1995 Majoli andò in Sud America per diversi mesi, per fotografare una varietà di soggetti per un suo progetto personale, “Requiem in Samba”. At the age of 15, Alex Majoli joined the F45 Studio in Ravenna, working alongside Daniele Casadio. While studying at the Art Institute in Ravenna, he joined Grazia Neri Agency and traveled to Yugoslavia to document the conflict. He returned many times over the next few years, covering all major events in Kosovo and Albania.
Majoli graduated from art school in 1991. Three years later, he made an intimate portrayal of the closing of an asylum for the insane on the island of Leros, Greece, a project that became the subject of his first book, Leros.
In 1995 Majoli went to South America for several months, photographing a variety of subjects for his ongoing personal project, ‘Requiem in Samba’. He started the project ‘Hotel Marinum’ in 1998, on life in harbour cities around the world, the final goal of which was to perform a theatrical multimedia show. That same year he began making a series of short films and documentaries.
After becoming a full member of Magnum Photos in 2001, Majoli covered the fall of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, and two years later the invasion of Iraq. He continues to document various conflicts worldwide for Newsweek, the New York Times Magazine, Granta and National Geographic.
Majoli, in collaboration with Thomas Dworzak, Paolo Pellegrin and Ilkka Uimonen, had an extremely successful exhibition and installation Off Broadway in New York in 2004, which travelled to France and Germany. He then became involved in a project for the French Ministry of Culture entitled ‘BPS’, or ‘Bio-Position System’, about the social transformation of the city of Marseilles. A recently completed project, ‘Libera me’, is a reflection on the human condition.

Olivo Barbieri (nato nel 1954 a Carpi, Emilia Romagna) è un artista italiano e fotografo di ambienti urbani. Vive e lavora a Milano
E’ riconosciuto per la sue tecnica innovativa nella creazione di miniature fotografiche da paesaggi reali, simulando una bassa profondità di campo attraverso l’uso di lenti tilt-shift. La tecnica di Barbieri simulma la poca profondità di campito della fotografia macro inclinando l’angolo della lente sul piano posteriore della fotocamera, così creando una sfocatura graduale nei bordi parti superiori e inferiori o destro e sinistro della fotografia. La tecnica viene chiamata “fuoco selettivo” e l’effetto ottenuto è che l’immagine di una città reale sembra l’immagine di un plastico.
Barbieri cominciò la sua carriera fotografica studiando al DAMS (Discipline delle Arti della Musica e dello Spettacolo) presso la facoltà di Arte e Umanistica dell’Università di Bologna. Dopo il 1971, il suo interesse per la fotografia crebbe e, inizialmente, focalizzò la sua ricerca sull’illuminazione artificiale. Nel 1978 espose il suo lavoro in diverse mostre in Italia e all’estero. Nel 1989 cominciò a viaggiare regolarmente in Estremo Oriente, particolarmente in Cina.

Olivo Barbieri (born 1954 in Carpi, Emilia-Romagna) is an Italian artist and photographer of urban environments. He lives and works in Milan
He is recognized for his innovative technique creating miniature still photography from actual landscapes by simulating shallow depth of field via the use of tilt-shift lens photography. Barbieri’s technique simulates the shallow depth of field effect of macro photography by tilting the lens’s angle to the back plane of the camera, which creates a gradual blurring at the top and bottom edges, or left and right edges of the filmed image. The technique is called selected focus and the effect is that a picture of an actual city looks like the picture of a model.
Barbieri began his career in photography studying at DAMS (Drama, Art and Music Studies) at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Bologna. After 1971, his interest in photography grew and, initially, he focused his research on artificial lighting. In 1978, he took part in several exhibitions in Italy and also abroad. In 1989 he started to travel regularly to the Far East, particularly to China.
In 1993, 1995 and 1997 Barbieri exhibited his work at the Venice Biennale, among other international exhibitions, and in galleries and museums throughout Europe, North America, and China. In 1996, the Museum Folkwang in Essen, Germany, devoted a retrospective to his work, which has been collected by museums worldwide.
In 2003 Barbieri started the Site Specific project (photos and films) describing cities like Rome, Turin, Montreal, Amman, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Siviglia, New York and others. He has realised several 35mm films within this project:
