Il fotografo che vi presento oggi, è uno dei fotografi recentemente selezionati tra i “nominees” dall’assemblea generale di Magnum Photos.
Io sono stata folgorata dal suo lavoro visitando una mostra, dove ho acquistato anche il suo libro Zzyzx, che è stato oggetto di numerosi riconoscimenti. Davvero bellissimo a mio parere.

Gregory Halpern (nato nel 1977) è un fotografo ed insegnante americano. Attualmente insegna al Rochester Institute of Technology ed è un “nominee member” di Magnum Photos.
Halpern ha pubblicato cinque libri dei suoi lavori. Omaha Sketchbook (2009) è il ritratto dell’artista dell’omonima città statunitense; Harvard Works Because We Do (2003) è un libro che unisce testo e fotografie, e ci presenta un ritratto dell’Università di Harvard attraverso gli occhi di alcuni lavoratori di servizio della scuola; A (2011) è una passeggiata fotografica lungo le strade dell’American Rust Belt (letteralmente “cintura della ruggine”, identifica un’area post-industriale nel Midwest statunitense ndt); East of the Sun, West of the Moon nasce da una collaborazione con sua moglie, la fotografa Ahndraya Parlato; ed infine Zzyzx (2016), con fotografie su Los Angeles e California.
Halpern ha ricevuto una Guggenheim Fellowship dalla fondazione Simon Guggenheim Memorial. Il suo libro Zzyzx si èa ggiudicato il premio come PhotoBook of the Year al Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards nel 2016.
Halpern è cresciuto a Buffalo, nello stato di New York. Ha ottenuto un bachelor of Arts in storia e letteratura alla Harvard University e un Master of Fine Arts al California College of the Arts. Ha insegnato al California College of the Arts, alla Cornell University, alla School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, alla Harvard University e alla Harvard Graduate School of Design. Attualmente insegna al Rochester Institute of Technology.

Gregory Halpern (born 1977) is an American photographer and teacher. He currently teaches at the Rochester Institute of Technology and is a nominee member of Magnum Photos.
Halpern has published five books of his own work. Omaha Sketchbook (2009) is an artist’s book portrait of the titular city; Harvard Works Because We Do (2003) is a book of photographs and text, presenting a portrait of Harvard University through the eyes of the school’s service employees; A (2011) is a photographic ramble through the streets of the American Rust Belt; East of the Sun, West of the Moon is a collaboration with Halpern’s wife, the photographer Ahndraya Parlato; and Zzyzx (2016) is a book of photographs from Los Angeles.
Halpern is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Zzyzx won PhotoBook of the Year at the 2016 Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation PhotoBook Awards.
